Rep Adam Schiff was on Wednesday censured by the US House of Representatives, halting his investigation into Russia’s role in Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
The vote was 213-209 in favor of the Republicans. Schiff now becomes the 25th lawmaker to be censured.
“I will not yield. Not one inch,” he said during the debate. After the vote, Democrats chanted “No!,” “Shame!” and “Adam! Adam!”
“To my Republican colleagues who introduced this resolution, I thank you,” Schiff said earlier Wednesday. “You honor me with your enmity. You flatter me with this falsehood. You, who are the authors of a big lie about the last election, must condemn the truth-tellers and I stand proudly before you. Your words tell me that I have been effective in the defense of our democracy and I am grateful.”

The resolution accuses Adam Schiff of misleading people while pursuing his investigation. He has dismissed all allegations as ‘false and defamatory’.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a Florida Republican, led the effort. Her last censure effort failed last week. More than 20 Republicans voted with the Democrats then. They, however, changed their votes this week after Luna removed a provision that could have fined Schiff $16 million if the House Ethics Committee determined he lied.

The revised resolution said that Adam Schiff held positions of power during Trump’s presidency. He “abused this trust by saying there was evidence of collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia.”
“I have called up my censure motion and will be bringing the vote to hold Adam Schiff accountable to the floor tomorrow,” Luna tweeted Tuesday night.
