West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday
that goons from other states had entered Nandigram and were intimidating voters,
as well as causing trouble in the area. Making the comment to reporters before
starting her campaign for later phases, Banerjee also said that locals were
being hounded out in the constituency, which falls under Purba Medinipur, PTI
reported.

“Goons from other states have entered Nandigram to
intimidate the voters. The villagers of Balarampur and many other areas are
being hounded out. They are intimidating voters,” Banerjee was quoted by
PTI as saying.

The Chief Minister noted that a complaint to the Election
Commission would be filed with the same subject.

“We are lodging a complaint with the EC. The Election
Commission must take note of it and take action,” she was further quoted
as saying.

Speaking on the subject, BJP leader Jaiprakash Majumdar said
that the TMC supremo was making such claims due to sensing defeat in advance.

Nandigram will be witnessing one of the biggest contests in
this year’s elections, as Banerjee will be taking on her former party aide and
current BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari in the Nandigram assembly constituency.

Adhikari,
who wields considerable political influence in the Purba Medinipur district,
was earlier one of Trinamool Congress’ top faces in the region.
