Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, the husband of US Vice President Kamala Harris, tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, but Harris has not been infected thus far.
After testing positive, Emhoff took to Twitter to encourage people to get vaccinated, writing, “I tested positive for COVID. My symptoms are mild and I’m grateful to be both vaccinated and boosted. If you have yet to get vaccinated and boosted, please don’t wait.”

Harris’ spokesperson Sabina Singh confirmed that the Vice-President had not tested positive thus far, adding that the 57-year-old would continue to undertake COVID-19 tests as a precaution.
“Earlier today, the Second Gentleman tested positive for Covid-19. Out of an abundance of caution, the Vice President will not participate in tonight’s event. The Vice President tested negative for Covid-19 today and will continue to test,” Singh said on Tuesday.

The event being referred to was an Equal Pay Day event at the White House scheduled for Tuesday evening, which both the Vice President and her husband skipped.
The event was attended by US President Joe Biden, who addressed Harris’ absence, saying the Vice President “chose not to take a chance since her husband had contracted COVID, although he’s feeling very well, I’m told.”

Harris testing negative will come as a relief for the White House as the 57-year-old had met with President Biden earlier in the day, during a bill-signing event at the White House which was also attended by a large number of Democratic lawmakers, including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
Later in the day, the Vice President also hosted current and former members of the US women’s soccer team along with Labor Secretary Marty Walsh.
