The termination of the war in Afghanistan, which was pushed by United States President Joe Biden, is reportedly supported by the people of America, according to a poll. However, people continue to remain skeptical about the best methods that were chosen to do the task.
According to a poll conducted by the Washington Post and ABC News, American votes were split by a margin of 2-to-1.
About 77% of Americans are of the opinion that the United States’ withdrawal from Afghanistan was the correct decision. The poll, conducted jointly by The Washington Post and ABC News, shows that the support for the decision blurs American party lines as those in favour of the Democratic party, Republican party and Independents agree with the Afghan pullout.
However, the results of the poll seem to be covered with critical views too. The way the exit from Afghanistan unfolded has introduced opposing views into the mix. The death of 13 United States service members is believed to be the reason for such sentiments being triggered.
The Washington Post-ABC News poll revealed a complex set of American opinions. The results were:
-52% of Americans say they support the end of the two-decade war but do not approve of Biden’s way of handling it
-About 26% say they back both, the American pullout from Afghanistan and the way Biden played it out
-17% of Americans decline to get behind the exit of the United States from Afghanistan
– Roughly 6% did not express an opinion on the matter
United States authorities were engaged in conducting one of the biggest evacuation missions ever carried out by the country that resulted in the airlift of nearly 130,000 people from Afghanistan.
In addition to the evacuation, United States also responded to a deadly attack that killed dozens of Afghans and 13 service members of the US.
ISIS-K claimed responsibility for the attack l and was hit by a drone strike in Nangahar targeting a member believed to be involved in planning attacks against the US in Kabul on Saturday last week.
