Space Jam, the classic 1996 animated-reality crossover which starred NBA legend Michael Jordan is getting revamped for its 2021 sequel. Fans could not be more excited after the first look release of the film set to premiere in July, which shows the team-up of Looney Toons with LeBron James.

‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ has been described as a “parenting movie” while shifting focus from the feel-good competitive story of a basketball match to exploring the relationship between James and his son Dom, played by Cedric Joe.

More than two decades after the release of the original flick, the fans expected a revolutionised imagery of the film’s characters and have not been disappointed after the drop of the film’s recent first look. The stills show Don Cheadle, a scared 3D Bugs Bunny and CGI enhanced pumped up James reaching out for a dunk. 

The sequel will be abandoning the antagonist in the previous film, Monstars, while the good guys will be going up against ‘the Goon Squad’, according to Entertainment Weekly. One of the released stills from the Warner Bros. movie shows Dom sporting a jersey that reads “Goons”, which hints that the film is set to pitch James in competition with his on-screen son, both of whom are trapped in a “Warner 3000 entertainment Server-verse”, reported Entertainment Weekly.

While the full trailer has not been released till now, except for a few minor insights, fans have been looking forward to its release and expect Warner Bros. to align it with the 2021 NBA All Stars match which is set for March 7.
