Senator Ted Cruz became the target of many a scathing remark on Thursday after pictures emerged online of him travelling to Cancun, Mexico while millions of Texans have been left without power or heat amid freezing conditions.

Innumerable celebrities took to social media to condemn the Republican and called for the resignation of the Senator over the family trip.

However, Cruz defended his actions saying, “with school cancelled for the week, our girls asked to take a trip with friends. Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon.”

Meanwhile, ‘Pulp Fiction’ actor Rosanna Arquette tweeted: “Ted Cruz is warming himself in Cancun with his cohorts while the people he is meant to serve in Texas freeze. People are afraid, hungry cold .he is not fit to serve the American people in any way shape or form. he is a disgrace.”

Calling for Ted Cruz’s expulsion from the Senate, Meena Harris, niece of Vice President Kamala Harris and a Harvard graduated lawyer, said: “Can we expel Ted Cruz”

In a later tweet, she clarified, “Not from Mexico from the Senate”.

American journalist and a New York Times bestselling author Kurt Eichenwald criticised Cruz and alleged that the Senator used his kids as a cover-up for his own vacation.

“Given that @tedcruz was willing to attack democracy with lies about the election, why would anyone be surprised that he is willing to kneecap his daughter with lies about a Cancun vacation?” he wrote on Twitter.
