Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday confirmed Antonio Conte as their fourth permanent manager in three years, a day after firing Nuno Espirito Santo from the role. The former Cheslea boss has signed a contract until the summer of 2023, with an option to extend further.
“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Antonio Conte as our Head Coach,” the club said on Twitter.
Conte led Chelsea to the Premier League title in 2017 and has also won four Serie A titles, including a hat-trick of Scudettos with Juventus. He also won the Italian league with Inter Milan, breaking Juve’s decade of dominance in 2021, as well as led the Italian national side to the quarter-finals of Euro 2016.
Tottenham contacted the 52-year-old Italian after Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Manchester United at home, which spelled the end for Nuno’s short stint at the helm. The Portuguese was in charge for just 17 games over a period of less than five months after replacing his compatriot Jose Mourinho as the permanent manager in June.
According to The Guardian, Spurs managing director of football Fabio Paratici led the talks and convinced Conte to return to Premier League football. Paratici had a successful stint with Conte at Juventus from 2011 to 2014.

Conte has been assured he will be given a say over future transfers, which helped convinced him change his mind over managing the side after initially declining to take over from Mourinho in June.
“I am extremely happy to return to coaching, and to do so at a Premier League club that has the ambition to be a protagonist again,” Conte said. “Tottenham Hotspur has state-of-the-art facilities and one of the best stadiums in the world.”

“I can’t wait to start working to convey to the team and the fans the passion, mentality and determination that have always distinguished me, as a player and as a coach.”
Paratici said, “We are delighted to welcome Antonio to the club. His track record speaks for itself, with vast experience and trophies in both Italy and England. I know first-hand the qualities Antonio can bring to us, having worked with him at Juventus, and look forward to seeing his work with our talented group of players.”
