The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi arrived in Washington on Wednesday on an official visit to the US. During his visit, he will hold the first face-to-face meeting with President Joe Biden and his deputy Kamala Harris. He will also attend the maiden in-person Quad summit and address the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, New York.
Since assuming office in 2014, this is the seventh time that Modi will be visiting the US. Before all these, he would meet the Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of five global companies and would highlight the economic opportunities in India.
He is scheduled to hold one-on-one meetings with the top five American CEOs. Here’s the list of the CEOs that he will be meeting with:
1. Shantanu Narayen (Adobe)
Born on May 27, 1963, Shantanu Narayen is an Indian-American business executive. He has been associated with Adobe Systems since December 2007 and is the chairman, president, and chief executive officer (CEO) of the company. Before assuming his new role, he was also the company’s president and chief operating officer since 2005.
2. Vivek Lall (General Atomics)
A renowned scientist, Vivek Lall has been Chief Executive of General Atomics Global Corporation since June 1, 2020. Before this job, he worked at Lockheed Martin, and held key positions with Boeing and Reliance. From 2007 to April 2011, Lall headed the Boeing (Defence and Space) operations in India.
3. Cristiano E Amon (Qualcomm)
He serves as Qualcomm Incorporated’s president and is a member of the company’s executive committee. He is responsible for Qualcomm’s semiconductor business that includes Mobile Handsets, RF Front End, Automotive and IoT, and the Company’s global operations. The meeting with chip giant Cristiano Amon assumes significance, given India’s push for the 5G technology to be safe and secure.
4. Mark Widmar (First Solar)
Mark Widmar assumed the company’s CEO position in July 2016. When he joined First Solar in April 2011, he was the chief financial officer and served as First Solar’s chief accounting officer from February 2012 to June 2015.
5. Stephen A Schwarzman (Blackstone)
Stephen A. Schwarzman is Chairman, CEO and Co-Founder of Blackstone. His company is one of the world’s leading investment firms with $684 billion Assets Under Management (as of June 30, 2021). Since Blackstone was founded in 1985, Schwarzman has been involved in all phases of the company’s development. The firm has established leading investing businesses across asset classes, including private equity, growth equity, hedge fund solutions among others.
