Five-star Ollie Robinson ran through the Indian batting line-up on the fourth day of the third Test match in Leeds to give his team a much-needed victory in the five-match Test series against England on Saturday. With this, the hosts have levelled the series 1-1.
India started the fourth day on 215/2 and were looking to overhaul England’s massive 432-run lead. All hopes were pinned on Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli as they walked out to bat on 91 and 45, respectively.
However, the English bowlers had other ideas in mind. Robinson bowled well to get rid of Pujara as he the Indian was trapped LBW. He could not add a single run to his overnight score of 91.
India reached 215 for two in their second innings at stumps on the third day of the third Test against England here on Friday.
The hosts took a massive first-innings lead of 354 runs before being all out for 432 in their first essay at Headingley.
Cheteshwar Pujara was batting on 91 and giving him company was skipper Virat Kohli on 45.
He was followed by Virat Kohli, who was sent back shortly after his 26th Test fifty. He was caught by his English counterpart Joe Root in the slip off Robinson. During his 125-ball stay in the middle, he hit eight boundaries.
This was a repeat dismissal for Kohli as he continued hanging his bat out with the red cherry taking an outside edge of his willow every single time.
The Indian captain, after Pujara’s dismissal, was joined by Ajinkya Rahane. He, too, was sent packing cheaply on 10 off 25 balls. Before he was dismissed by James Anderson he managed to hit two boundaries.
The Indian middle order and the lower order fell like nine pins. Rishabh Pant took the long walk back for just 1. Ravindra Jadeja put up a fight but was dismissed for 30 off 25 by Craig Overton.
Lord’s hero Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah failed to recreate any magic. While Shami was castled for 6, Bumrah remained not out on 1 off 6 balls. The other batsmen to depart were Ishant Sharma (2 off 5 balls) and Mohammed Siraj (0 off 2 balls).
For England, Robinson returned with figures of 5/65 in his second outing. He was ably supported bu Overton, who scalped three wickets.
The next India vs England will be played at Kennington Oval, London. It starts September 2.
