Anurag Thakur, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, unveiled the Broadcast Seva Portal on Monday, an online solution for broadcasters to quickly file and process applications for all types of licences, approvals, and registrations.

The administration has used technology to increase openness and accountability in the system. “The Broadcast Seva Portal would shorten application turnaround time while also allowing applicants to check their progress,” the minister said at the occasion in New Delhi.

This gateway will eliminate the human contact that was previously necessary, contributing to the ministry’s capacity growth and being a significant step toward Ease of Doing Business, he added.

The minister stated that the Broadcast Seva Portal will provide services as part of the Digital India campaign, saying, “The portal is a giant leap forward in realising Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s mantra of ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance,’ as this simple and user-friendly web portal provides a broadcaster an end-to-end solution with just a click of a mouse.”

“It will boost the business environment and empower the entire broadcast sector by directly benefiting more than 900 satellite TV channels, 70 teleport operators, 1700 multi-service operators, 350 community radio stations (CRS), 380 private FM channels and others,” Thakur said.

“The new portal has several improvements over the previous version and has incorporating suggestions from stakeholders over a trial period of one month. The portal would bring Transparency, Accountability & Responsiveness in the ecosystem and all information will be available on a single dashboard,” said Apurva Chandra, secretary of the Ministry of I&B.

According to the government, the portal’s primary features include end-to-end processing, connectivity with payment systems, and E-offices. For candidates, there is an integrated helpdesk. The letters and orders can be downloaded directly from the webpage. Stakeholders will be kept up to date by SMS and e-mail notifications.
