John Hinckley Jr, who attempted to assassinate then-President Ronald Reagan in 1981, appears to have achieved his goal of rebranding as a singer. He announced on Twitter on Friday that he will be performing in New York City this summer.“
“Big news!! “I will be performing on July 8 at the Market Hotel in Brooklyn, NY,” he stated in the post, which also included “special guests.” Get your tickets while you can.”
The show was announced on the hotel’s Instagram stories. A link on the ticket website Venue Pilot advertises a $20 ticket price for the 8 p.m. show.

It was uncertain whether Hinckley’s first-ever live public performance would take place in July.
The Post reached out to Scenic Presents, a Brooklyn concert promotion business that is handling the gig and also tweeted the news, for comment, but they rejected. The Post also reached out to the hotel for a remark.
People responded to his news by requesting him to arrange gigs in areas such as Boston and Chicago, as well as questioning whether shirts and other goods are available – just like any other touring musician.

Hinckley, now 66, opened a YouTube account in December 2020 in an attempt to fulfil a long-held desire of working in the music industry. Since then, he has posted over a dozen videos to the account, which has over 26,000 subscribers. The videos show him strumming a guitar and singing, with a hint of country twang, both reportedly original material — such as songs of hope and love with titles like “May Your Dreams Come True,” “Can’t We Get Along,” and “You and I Are Free” — and covers of songs by Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, and Elvis Presley.
Comments on his YouTube channel have since been disabled, but early commenters appeared to be admirers from the start. “When I heard you were released and making songs on YouTube I thought it was a joke, but far out this was such a beautiful song,” one fan wrote. “You are very talented, please make more.”

Hinckley stated in December that he would launch his own record label, Emporia Records, with a 14-song CD of his music. He also stated that interested musicians might send him CD or cassette demos via a Post Office box in Williamsburg, Virginia.
According to the Post, 29 of his own songs are currently accessible on iTunes, and his tunes are also available on Spotify. On April 1, his latest single, “Dark Is the Night,” was made available for streaming.
On March 30, 1981, Hickley opened fire on Reagan outside of a Washington, DC, hotel, striking him once in the chest and injuring three others, including press secretary James Brady, who was disabled for the remainder of his life. Reagan survived and spent two weeks in the hospital.

Hinckley had a crush on actress Jodie Foster, who played a prostitute in the film “Taxi Driver,” and trailed her in the hopes of catching her attention. He eventually plotted to assassinate the president, hauntingly similar to another character in the film, Travis Buckle, played by Robert De Niro.
Hinckley was judged not guilty by reason of insanity and committed to a psychiatric facility for 35 years. Hinckley moved in with his mother in Virginia in 2016 and departed two years later to live on his own.
