On Monday, the deadline of the transfer window, it was
reported that the negotiation between Barcelona and Arsenal over Aubameyang had
failed.

The Gabon striker, however, flew to Catalonia on

Arsenal had been looking for a club for Aubameyang
after his relationship with manager Mikel Arteta deteriorated. In December,
Aubameyang was also stripped of the captaincy following a series of
disciplinary issues. Since then he had not been part of Arsenal’s first team.
As his future with Arsenal looked bleak, Aubameyang were desperate to leave the
club.

“We wish Auba all the best for the next chapter
in his career and thank him for his contribution to the club,” Arsenal
confirmed Aubameyang’s departure on Tuesday.

Aubameyang, who had 18 months remaining on his Arsenal
contract, has not played for the club since December 6 and was allowed to play
for Gabon in the Africa Cup of Nations after medical tests had shown he had
cardiac lesions. He had previously tested positive for COVID-19 upon arriving
in Cameroon for the tournament.

He later took to social media to say that he was
“absolutely fine” and he had been given a clean bill of health after
further tests in London.
