Search was underway for the suspected shooter after a man was killed outside a Target store in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Thursday afternoon.

Police and medics rushed to the store in Oakley, located near I-71 and State Route 562, around 1 pm on Thursday after receiving reports of an active shooter situation.

Authorities, however, confirmed that the victim was targeted and it was not an active shooter situation.

“Once we arrived on scene, we determined it was not an active shooter investigation or incident. It was a shooter who had an intended target, and he fired his gun and hit that individual in the parking lot just outside the front doors of the Target store,” interim chief Teresa Theetge said.

Authorities also confirmed that no shots were fired inside the store.

Meanwhile, several witnesses told Local 12 that they saw several people arguing near the store around the time of the shooting.

“I was coming up here, I was on my way to Planet Fitness, and when I came up, the guy was running across the street with a gun, and next thing you know, I heard gunshots fired,” one witness told the outlet.

Rachel Underwood told WCPO that she was walking out of the nearby Meijer when she heard gunshots.

“It’s too close for comfort. Just being in this area, there’s a lot of people here and anybody could’ve gotten hurt — innocent people,” she told the outlet.
