Liz Cheney, the sole United States Representative from the state of Wyoming, will not be recognised as a member of the Republican party after GOP’s state committee formally voted to take the decision on Monday. Cheney has often spoken against former President Donald Trump.
Local officials of the Republican party in Wyoming, in about one-third of the state, voted to take the step following a state party central committee vote over the weekend, which ended with a tally of 31-29, according to reports from Associated Press.
Cheney has previously faced consequences for saying that Trump was behind the violence at the United States Capitol on January 6 and is responsible for inciting the insurrection.

The 55-year-lawmaker, earlier this year, was removed from her leadership role by Wyoming state officials. Cheney, who is the daughter of former United States Vice President Dick Cheney, was the number three House Republican.
In a statement released earlier this year by Trump, he said that GOP lawmakers “have a great opportunity today to rid themselves of a poor leader, a major Democrat talking point, a warmonger, and a person with absolutely no personality or heart”, according to reports from AFP.
Cheney is also likely to face tough competition from at least four Republican candidates in the upcoming 2022 primary elections. The list is headed by Harriet Hageman, a candidate who has been endorsed by Trump.

Harriet Hageman, who also ran for the gubernatorial race in 2018 but lost the primaries, said in a statement, “Liz Cheney stopped recognizing what Wyomingites care about a long time ago. When she launched her war against President Trump, she completely broke with where we are as a state”, according to reports from Associated Press.
State officials have also attempted to remove Cheney as the chairwoman of the House Republican Conference, a vote that was survived by the poltician.
