Robert Beltran, a Mexican-American actor, known for his role as Commander Chakotay on the 1990s television series Star Trek is soon to appear in the upcoming animated series Star Trek Prodigy.
Star Trek: Prodigy, the highly anticipated animated series from Star Trek, will be out on October 29. It was created by Emmy award winners Kevin and Dan Hageman.
The CG animated series follows a diverse group of young aliens who must figure out how to work together to search for a better future across a giant galaxy.
These six young misfits know nothing about the ship they commanded, but as they venture out together, they all know Starfleet and the ideals it represents.
The new cast comprises the six young aliens in the animated series: Ella Purnell, Brett Gray, Jason Mantzoukas, Rylee Alazraqui, Dee Bradley Baker, and Angus Imrie. They will join Kate Mulgrew, reprising her iconic role from Star Trek: Voyager as Captain Kathryn Janeway.
Paramount+ has disclosed that Star Trek: Voyager’s Robert Beltran will be reprising his role as Chakotay in the new animated series.
Beltran officially confirmed the announcement on Twitter, noting his excitement about meeting Mulgrew. “Star Trek: Prodigy will be a wonderful viewing experience for people of all ages, as it should be.”
In 1982, he starred as the titular character in the dark comedy ‘Eating Raoul’ which was his second film.
Beltran also starred in several made-for-TV movies. Among these were 1984’s The Mystic River, co-starring Nick Ramus, Ron Soble, and 1986’s The Family Martinez, co-starring Denise Crosby.
He has won the Nosotros Golden Eagle Award for Outstanding Actor in a Television Series in 1997.
Fans, in particular, will be excited to see Captain Janeway returns in Prodigy. It is unclear if Chakotay is destined for the same holographic fate as Janeway.
