The Bharatiya Janata Party, on Friday, chose former deputy chief minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi for the by-election in Bihar, news agency PTI reported. This move comes in the background of Modi’s snub from the deputy chief ministerial position after the NDA won the recently-concluded Bihar Assembly Election 2020.

Soon after Modi’s snub, Kumar, refusing to indulge in the decision, had said: “It is the decision of the BJP to not field Sushil Modi as the Deputy Chief Minister. They should be asked about this.”

The BJP named Tarkishore Prasad as its leader in the state assembly and Renu Devi his deputy.

Sushil Modi was the deputy chief minister of Bihar since 2005, barring a 20-month break when Nitish Kumar formed a government in alliance with the RJD in 2015, and is known to share an excellent rapport with the chief minister.

After NDA clinched maximum numbers of seats in Bihar to claim victory, a win that was registered due to BJP’s exceptional performance in the state, Modi, while thanking the people of Bihar, said, “People have expressed their faith in NDA for the fourth time. It’s not ordinary.”
