Barcelona has moved forward in their hopes of signing Polish striker Robert Lewandowski this summer, as per Sport1 journalist Kerry Hau. 

The Bayern Munich forward has stated that he intends to leave at the end of the season and doesn’t want to renew his contract with the Bavarian side. The 33-year-old is reportedly frustrated by the Bundesliga club’s attempt to keep him there. 

As per Hau, the Catalans have been successful in reaching a verbal agreement with Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, who was initially successful in getting the player to want to move to the Spanish club. Now, his agent has verbally agreed to a three-year contract for Lewandowski, Hau reports.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta believes, that despite the club’s poor financial state, it can undertake to sign Lewandowski and can pay his wages, though they are expected to ask the Polish forward to lower his initial ask. 

As per Hau’s reports, Barcelona could soon make an official bid for the player when Bayern is ready to listen to offers. A bid in the ballpark of €30-40 million has been prepared, and the Catalans are ready to make further compensations, as per reports. 

For now, the exact figures remain unknown and could rest on several factors including club sponsorship deals and player sales. However, the recent move of Brazilian winger Philippe Coutinho to Aston Villa has given Barcelona €20 million.

The club is also ready to sell players like Clement Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti, Miralem Pjanic and Antoine Griezmann, among others, and looks focused to acquire Lewandowski and build the team around him for the coming season. 

The Bavarians, meanwhile, are only likely to let Lewandowski go when they have found a replacement. 

Bayern president Herbert Hainer, spoke to Sport Bild, saying, “Robert Lewandowski has a contract with Bayern until June 2023 – and he will fulfill it”. The club conveyed the same to his agent.
