The Knight Riders Group, the owners of IPL club Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), said on Friday that they will build a cricket stadium in Los Angeles with the help of Major League Cricket (MLC). The idea was launched with the Olympics in 2028 in mind since cricket might be included in the Summer Games six years later. The cricket stadium will be erected on a 15-acre plot of land. “Our investment in MLC in America, is based on our belief in the exciting future of cricket in the USA and is well-aligned to our strategy of establishing Knight Riders as a global brand in T20 cricket,” said Bollywood actor and KRG co-owner Shah Rukh Khan in a statement.

The initial investors in MLC are KRG, the proprietors of Kolkata Knight Riders and Trinbago Knight Riders.

“Plans to build a world-class cricket stadium in the greater Los Angeles area are exciting for us and MLC. This will no doubt have a transformational impact on one of the world’s most iconic metropolitan areas,” he continued.

According to the statement, the construction would include a multi-million dollar investment, and internationally renowned architects HKS will build an iconic home for the sport in the Greater Los Angeles metropolitan region.

The stadium plans include cutting-edge training facilities, locker rooms, luxury suites, dedicated parking, concessions, field lighting, and an international-grade pitch that will exceed International Cricket Council standards.

USA Cricket is anticipated to bid for future men’s and women’s World Cup events, with the United States and the West Indies already slated to co-host the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup.

The ICC is also bidding for cricket to be included in the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028, and if successful, the stadium at Great Park is intended to be a focal location for the tournament in Southern California.
