India’s swaggering wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant said he would donate his match fee to relief operations for the Uttarakhand glacier burst and also urged others to come forward and participate.

On Sunday, a glacier bursted at Joshimath in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, leading to a huge flood in the Dhauli Ganga River and causing a significant destruction in the upper reaches of the ecologically vulnerable Himalayas.

The wicketkeeper-batsman was born in Roorkee, a town in the Haridwar district of the state.

Pant through his Twitter handle said that he was deeply pained by the loss of life in the state and would like to donate his match fee for the same. He urged other people to come forward for the cause as well.

In an earlier tweet on Sunday, the cricketer expressed his grief over the loss of lives in the natural disaster. 

“My sincere condolences and prayers for the families of those affected by the Uttarakhand flash floods. I hope that the rescue operations underway are able to help those in trouble,” he tweeted.

Pant tweeted shortly after scoring a breathtaking 91 in the ongoing opening test between India and England at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

More than 150 workers working in the power project are missing, officials said.

Homes were washed away as the rivers ran down the mountainsides in a roaring flood. There have been fears of damage in inhabited areas downstream. Many villages were cleared and residents were taken to safe areas on Sunday.
