Ram Naresh Agnihotri of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the Bhongaon assembly constituency defeating Alok Kumar Shakya of the Samajwadi Party (SP) by a margin of 4,767 votes.
Bhongaon assembly constituency has Ram Naresh Agnihotri of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking on Alok Shakya of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Ashok Kumar of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Santosh Kumar Shrivashtav of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Mamta Rajput of the Congress this year in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
Ram Naresh Agnihotri had won the Bhongaon seat in 2017, when the BJP swept Uttar Pradesh winning 312 of UP’s 403 assembly seats. Agnihotri had beaten his closest rival Alok Kumar by over 20,297 votes. Alok Kumar had contested that election on a SP ticket.
In 2012, the seat was won by Alok Kumar of the SP.

Bhongaon falls under the Mainpuri district and the Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency, which is made up of five assembly seats.
Mulayam Singh Yadav of the SP represented Mainpuri as a member of Parliament in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Yadav defeated Prem Singh Shakya from the BJP with a margin of 9,43,89 votes.

The Bhongaon assembly constituency will vote in the third phase of the Uttar Pradesh elections on February 20, 2022, along with 58 other constituencies in 16 districts. Uttar Pradesh will vote in seven rounds, with the last round on March 3.
Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including neighbouring Uttarakhand.
