Lakshadweep Police on Thursday registered an FIR against filmmaker Aisha Sultana on charges of sedition and hate speech after she said in a TV debate that the Central government had deployed COVID-19 as a %u201Cbio weapon” against people of Lakshadweep. The case was registered based on a complaint from BJP’s Lakshadweep unit president C Abdul Khader Haji.
Aisha issued a statement saying, %u201CI had used the word bio-weapon in the TV channel debate. I have felt Patel (administrator of the union territory, Praful Patel) as well as his policies [have acted] as a bio-weapon. It was through Patel and his entourage that COVID spread in Lakshadweep. I have compared Patel as a bioweapon, not the government or the country%u2026. You should understand. What else should I call him%u2026%u201D
