Joe Biden’s first State of the Union address after taking over the White House last year revolved around multiple key issues, including healthcare, economy, COVID-19, climate change and immigration. However, the ongoing crisis in Ukraine took the centre stage.
Biden kept aside a few minutes from his address to specifically talk about Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and demonstrated United States’ support for Volodymyr Zelensky’s government.
Meanwhile, this year’s State of the Union marked the first time in US history when two women (Vice President Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi) were standing behind the President’s podium as the speech was being delivered.
