Sadio Mane scored his 100th goal for Liverpool, guiding his team to a 3-0 win in the Premier League, on Saturday. With this, the Senegalese forward made sure that he scored for the ninth straight time against Crystal Palace.
Mane achieved the milestone by converting from close range in the 43rd minute after Mohamed Salah’s header from a corner was parried out by Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.
Of Mane’s century of goals for the Reds, which have come in 224 games, 10 have been scored against Palace.
Mohamed Salah extended his team’s lead in the 78th minute that also came from a corner as the international from Egypt international found the back of the net from the left after it was deflected to him at the back post.
The final nail on the Crystal Palace’s coffin came in the 89th minute when Naby Keita scored the best of the lot with a volley from the edge of the area after the ball was punched clear by Guaita.
It was a tough game for Liverpool as they were without two attacking full-backs because Trent Alexander-Arnold was ill and Andrew Robertson was rested.
In the Premier League, Liverpool has won four of its five games and has conceded only once. The team improved its defensive showings as center back Virgil van Dijk returned from an injury.
Palace hit the post inside the opening two minutes through Wilfried Zaha, and Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker was also called upon to make saves against Conor Gallagher and substitute Odsonne Edouard shortly before Salah struck his fourth league goal of the season.
In the build-up to Saturday’s match, Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp said that Sadio is looking sharp.
“Sadio looks really good, he looks really sharp,” Klopp said.
“I know we talk about these things when a striker misses some chances, but that he has the amount of chances he has, the amount of finishes he has, that’s actually the important stuff,” Klopp continued.
“Sadio is in a good moment; a really good moment physically and mentally as well, so really confident and you can see that. A player misses a chance and doesn’t look desperate or whatever, he has a smile on his face and he knows, ‘I could have done this or this better…’ and all these kind of things,” the coach added.
