Serbian ace Novak Djokovic beat Russia’s Daniil Medvedev 7-5, 6-2,  6-2 to clinch his ninth career Australian title at the Melbourne Park on Sunday. 

This was Djokovic’s 18th Grand Slam win and the Serbian is just two behind his ‘big three’ rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who are on 20 each. 

The Serbian tennis star dominated his serve in the first set to take 7-5 then Medvedev lost the plot again in the second set Word number one beat him thrice to win the set 6-2.

Medvedev, chasing his first Grand Slam title, rallied back after Djokovic started in dominating fashion, blitzing to a 3-0 lead in the opening set, but went on to lose 7-5. 

The Serbian world number one over powered the Russian rookie 6-2 in the second set.

Djokovic has gone through a roller-coaster ride to get to his ninth Australian Open final, as he uncharacteristically dropped five sets and battled an abdominal injury that nearly forced him to withdraw. 

Rarely in the history of this championship has a player been so dominant at a single tournament as Djokovic was, moving hs record past Federer’s eight at Wimbledon. However, the world champion has still a long way to go to reach the 13 Nadal has won at Roland Garros.
