US President Joe Biden will address a joint session of the Congress, also called the State of the Union, as he completes 100 days in office on April 30. The session will take place about two months later than the normal schedule, as it was delayed so the Biden administration could focus on tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.

When is the State of the Union address?

Joe Biden will address a joint session of Congress on April 28 at 9 PM ET/6:30 AM IST (April 29) in the US House of Representatives.

Where can I watch the address?

All major US networks – CNN, Fox News and ABC News – will provide a live stram of the address.

What can we expect?

Going by press secretary Jen Psaki’s statement last week, Joe Biden is likely to “talk about all of the priorities and his commitment to building the economy back better, getting the pandemic under control, addressing the challenges we face around the world.”

The US President will also expected to speak about his $2 trillion infrastructure plan as well as the country’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts. More than 200 million vaccine doses have already been administered in the United States.

Who will attend?

The State of the Union address will be an invite-only affair. The Congress members will not be allowed to bring guests.

All additional guests will have to leave the building by 5 PM local time on Wednesday. Staff with Capitol offices and those credentialed by the Sergeant at Arms can remain in the building, according to a memo by Timothy Blodgett, the acting sergeant at arms. Official visitors are allowed only until 1 PM and they must be escorted into the Capitol from the barricades, AP reports.
