The Indian embassy in Ukraine, in its third advisory, asked nationals to head to bomb shelters if they are at places where air sirens/bomb warnings can be heard. The advisiory came hours after Russia launched an attack on the eastern European counrty.

“As you are aware, Ukraine is under Martial law, which has made movement difficult,” the embassy said. 

Ukraine has imposed a Martial law as Russia attacked Ukraine. Martial law is the temporary imposition of direct military control of normal civil functions or suspension of civil law by a government, especially in response to a temporary emergency where civil forces are overwhelmed, or in an occupied territory.

The embassy further added that it is in touch with establishments to get a shelter for those students who have no place to say in Kyiv. 

The Indian embassy further added that it has also advised the nationals, particularly students to be aware of their surroundings, and urged not to leave their homes unless necessary.

Earlier in the day, an Air India plane that took off for Kyiv in Ukraine to bring back Indians from the eastern European nation was called back to Delhi due to the closure of Ukrainian airspace amid the Russian military offensive.

After the Air India flight had departed from Delhi on Thursday morning, the Ukrainian authorities issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), which stated that flights of civil aircraft within Ukraine “are restricted due to potential hazard for civil aviation”.
