Recently, Caleb has been opening up about his “American Idol” experience since his departure in May. Kennedy, the 16-year-old singer began his “Idol” journey in October 2020. Caleb made it to the Top 5 before he had to abruptly leave the show after a controversial social media post was resurfaced online.

%u201CNow that I%u2019m home, I try to be me, but I%u2019m also scared of someone videoing me when I go to Academy or Walmart. You have to worry about things like that now,” Kennedy told the USA TODAY Network, on Thursday. Speaking about his journey on the show, Kennedy confessed that he underestimated the pressures of performing on a popular show like “American Idol.”
He said, “You think it%u2019s all going to be fun, and a lot of it is, but it will slap you in the face really quickly. I wasn%u2019t ready for it, there%u2019s no way to emotionally prepare for ‘Idol.’ Because no one is ready for it, no matter how you prepare.%u201D He further revealed that he had no regrets despite the challenges he faced during the show, adding “I did love it.”

Since his exit from Idol, Kennedy said he is continuing to write music, including songs about his experiences on “Idol%u201D as well.
In May, fans were shocked when Kennedy failed to appear on the show to perform alongside the Top 5 contestants. Host Ryan Seacrest without giving any explanation just said the high school student “will not be continuing in the competition.” Judges of the show also talked about the controversy in a virtual Q&A after the show. Kennedy also took to Instagram to apologize and officially announce his departure through a post.

USA Today talked with Caleb’s mother, where she clarified some things about the surfaced video. She said, %u201CThe video was taken after Caleb had watched the movie ‘The Strangers: Prey at Night and they were imitating those characters.” She further added, “Caleb doesn’t have a racist bone in his body.%u201D
