Brijesh Patel, chairman of the IPL Board of Directors, on Thursday announced that Vivo will be the title sponsor of IPL 2021. Last year, amid India-China border stand off, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to let go off the Chinese firm’s Indian unit as the title sponsor of the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League, which took place in the United Arab Emirates from September 19 to November 10.
BCCI had said, “The BCCI and Vivo Mobile India Pvt Ltd have decided to suspend their partnership for the Indian Premier League in 2020.” Dream11 got the chance to become the title sponsors for 2022 by winning rights for Rs 222 crore, half of what Vivo was paying annually for a 5-year deal.
Vivo replaced the IPL sponsor in 2016 signing a five year deal till 2022, taking over from Pepsi.
