English singer-songwriter Liam Gallagher is concerned that a song on his upcoming album, which is about Moscow, may lead to him getting ‘cancelled’ on social media and elsewhere.

Gallagher has spoken out about the timing of the release of his new song, ‘Moscow Rules’. The song by the former Oasis star is on his third solo album, ‘C’Mon, You Know’, which will be released on May 27. It was written before Russia invaded Ukraine.

“It’s nothing to do with Moscow is cool, or its rules, it’s not pro-Moscow,” Gallagher explained. “The timing is a bit shoddy, but when people hear it they’ll realize it’s what it is.”

Liam is understandably worried that it may appear that he supports Russia.

“If people really kick up a storm about it and they don’t want it, then just don’t listen to it. It’s only music. If it really upsets people, then I guess we can bin it off.”

‘Moscow Rules’ was co-written by Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend and other well-known musicians.

“Andrew Wyatt, the guy that I write the songs with, said, ‘Listen, I’ve got this tune that the guy from Vampire Weekend wrote’, which is called Moscow Rules,” Gallagher told 94.5 Buzz.

“Now, this is way before all this stuff that is happening, so I go, ‘Oh, this sounds a bit strange, a bit odd, let’s have a listen.

“So we played it and I thought it’s pretty out there man, so we cracked on with it, and then a couple of months later, Ezra popped up and I’d never met him before, nice lad, so that’s how that happened. At least it won’t be a big hit in Russia, where there isn’t a lot of new Western music.”

Russia began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. In a televised address before the invasion, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a “special military operation” to “denazify” Ukraine.
