The biggest winner of the US’s new defence bill is China, outgoing President Donald Trump said on Sunday as he vowed to veto a revised $740 million bill.

The National Defense Authorization Act, according to a report by Sputnik, includes provisions to sanction the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and Turkey for its acquisition of Russian-made S-400 air defense systems, news agency ANI reported.

The bill was passed by the House of Representatives by a 335-78 margin on Tuesday, however, the US Senate voted 84-13 in favour of the bill on Friday, which is enough to override Trump’s veto.

Trump, who had been at a war with social media after anti-racism protests broke out in the US, disagrees with the NDAA as the bill fails to include a repeal of Section 230, a law that protects internet companies from being liable for third-party posts, ANI reported quoting Sputnik.

“THE BIGGEST WINNER OF OUR NEW DEFENSE BILL IS CHINA!. I WILL VETO!” Trump tweeted on Sunday.

The NDAA bill also includes a provision that requires the names of Confederate soldiers and leaders to be stripped from military bases in the nation. Trump had threatened to veto the bill, earlier, over the defence department requiring to remove Confederate names from military bases, reports ANI.

Claiming a “left-wing cultural revolution,” a White House statement said, “Section 2829 is part of a sustained effort to erase from the history of the Nation those who do not meet an ever-shifting standard of conduct.”
