Adam Kinzinger is an American politician and a military officer who currently serves as the United States Representative for
Illinois’ 16th congressional district. As a senator, he serves on the House
Committee on Energy and Commerce as well as the House Foreign Affairs
Committee.

After the September 11 terrorist attacks,
Kinzinger joined the Air Force. He was deployed in both Operation
Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. He’s currently a
lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard.

In the Tea Party wave election of 2010, he was first
elected to Congress as a 32-year-old, beating a Democratic incumbent in a north
central and northeastern Illinois district by nearly 15 points. In 2013, he defeated
a 10-term Representative Don Manzullo in the primary after redistricting and
went on to win the general election.

Congressman Kinzinger, who is 43-years-old, is
one of the youngest members of Congress, yet he is in the top half of the House
of Representatives in terms of seniority.

He has long been a staunch advocate of US
leadership in the Middle East, and he was one of the first members of Congress
to urge for airstrikes against ISIS before being elected to Congress.

Kinzinger became well-known after 2020
presidential election for his outspoken opposition to Republican President
Donald Trump‘s bogus allegations of voting fraud and attempts to reverse the
results.

Kinzinger was one of ten Republicans who voted
to impeach Trump for inciting insurgency in his second impeachment, and one of
only two Republicans who voted to establish a select committee to examine the
2021 attack on the United States Capitol, to which he was later appointed.

The Washington Post dubbed him as a
“Republican Role Model for 2017.”
