Chelsea and Manchester City have agreed to a £47.5 million deal to sign Raheem Sterling, according to The Athletic.

The 27-year-old has already agreed to personal terms on a five-year contract with a one-year extension option, the report suggests.

Chelsea is currently working out the details of organising a medical in London. If all goes as planned, Sterling will accompany his new teammates on their pre-season tour to the United States.

Sterling has already spoken with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel about life at the club, and the England international is said to be impressed with the German coach’s ambition for the club.

Tuchel made no mistake as he locked his sight on the 27-year-old. This deal makes sense for everyone involved, and the speed with which negotiations have taken place tends to suggest that Boehly, who has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders after the departures of Marina Granovskaia and Petr Cech, is serious about providing Tuchel with the tools he needs to build a squad in his image.

Sterling has scored 131 goals in 339 appearances for the incumbent Premier League champions in his seven years at City.

He joined City from Liverpool in July 2015 for an initial fee of £44 million and has since won four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and three League Cups.

With the additions of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, as well as the form of Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, and Riyad Mahrez, there will be tough competition for spots in Pep Guardiola’s starting XI next season.

On August 7, City will play West Ham United at the London Stadium in their first game of the 2022-23 season.
