Keeping the T20 World Cup 2022 in focus, some senior players have been rested and a lot of youngsters have been given a chance. Here’s a look at the top 5 Indian players to watch out for:

1. Shikhar Dhawan: While other senior players were busy with the Test team in England, Dhawan captained India three times in ODIs during the Sri Lanka tour in 2021, which the visitors won 2-1. He will likely open with Ruturaj Gaikwad.  In the ODI series against England, the Delhi southpaw has looked a bit rusty. He is largely seen as a one format player with commentator Sanjay Manjrekar commenting that Dhawan is tailor made for ODIs.

2. Suryakumar Yadav: SKY has been performing well in T20s. The 31 year old proved his mettle by scoring a fine century against England. This performance took him to No. 5 spot in ICC T20 batter rankings. With many senior players rested, he would like to leave his mark on the ODI team too.

3. Ravindra Jadeja: The Rajkot allrounder is Dhawan’s deputy for the series. After scoring a brilliant century in the 5th test, Jadeja also performed well in the T20I series. His performance in the second T20I helped them build on a shaky start and register a total that they ultimately defended. A lot of Indian hopes will lie on the allrounder if India were to defeat the hosts.

4. Prasidh Krishna: He was the touted as the ‘find of the year’ when West Indies toured India in February 2022. The tall fast bowler brings another lethal arrow to India’s quiver with his combination of unwavering control and his ability to consistently hit the deck. His  9-3-12-4 powered India to the series win, with skipper Rohit Sharma saying, “I have never seen a spell like that in India for a long time now.” The pacer would like to again bring out the same performance against the same hosts.

5. Yuzvendra Chahal: He has consistently been India’s best performing spinner. In the 2nd ODI vs England, it was Chahal who broke the backbone of English batting line up, taking the wickets of Johnny Bairstow, Joe Root and Ben Stokes. Even though India went on to lose the match, Chahal’s discipline and subtle variations showed how lethal the legspinner is.
