Olivia Newton-John, who was popular for films like ‘Grease’ and ‘Xanadu’, died on Monday, her husband John Easterling confirmed on social media. She was 73. 

“Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time,” Easterling posted the news on her official Facebook page.

Newton-John was diagnosed with breast cancer that resurfaced in 2017. However, a cause of death has not been confirmed yet. 

“Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer,” her husband wrote.

Olivia Newton-John’s ‘Grease’ co-star and duet partner John Travolta paid his tribute on social media. 

“My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!” Travolta wrote. 

Newton-John’s biggest hit ‘Physical’ came in 1981. Her musical feaure ‘Xanadu’ was a flop. The 73-year-old was primarily a country vocalist but found her was through pop charts with several tuned hits. 

She had recently spoken about her battle with breast cancer.

“I’m happy. I’m lucky. I’m grateful. I have much to live for. And I intend to keep on living it. ‘Why me’ has never been a part of it,” she told Gayle King in an interview for “CBS This Morning” conducted at her California ranch in 2019.

Born in September, 1948 in Cambridge, England, Newton-John took up music in high school. Her family moved to Melbourne when she was six and the musician-actor appeared on Australian TV on several occassions.
