Mick Mulvaney, former acting
chief of staff in the Donald Trump administration, tweeted Friday that the FBI
search at Florida’s Mar-a-Lago was “just about documents”. Mulvaney’s tweet came
after the United States Department of Justice released a redacted version of
the affidavit that let federal officials search the former president’s home.

The redacted version of the
released affidavit says several documents marked confidential, secret and top
secret had ended up at Donald Trump’s home in Florida following the end of his
presidency. The former president is being investigated under several charges,
including the Espionage Act.

Mulvaney, 55, who was Donald
Trump’s acting chief of staff from 2019 to 2020 tweeted: “It appears this raid
was, in fact, just about documents. As even some on the left have opined: that
is simply outrageous.”

Donald Trump, the subject of
the investigation, wrote on his social media platform TRUTH Social: “Affidavit
heavily redacted!!!” “Nothing mentioned on ‘Nuclear,’ a total public relations
subterfuge by the FBI & DOJ, or our close working relationship regarding
document turnover – WE GAVE THEM MUCH.”

“Justice Bruce Reinhard should
NEVER have allowed the Break-In of my home. He recused himself two months ago
from one of my cases based on his animosity and hatred of your favorite
President, me. What changed? Why hasn’t he recused himself on this case? Obama
must be very proud of him right now!” Trump wrote.

Taylor Budowich, a
spokesperson for Donald Trump wrote on Twitter: “The release of the heavily
redacted, overtly political affidavit only proves that the Biden administration
is desperate to cover up their unprecedented, unnecessary and un-American raid
against President Donald J. Trump.” “There was no reason for a raid – it is all
politics!” he added.

Mulvaney had earlier said,
while speaking to MSN.com, that some of the documents reportedly found at
Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence were Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented
Information or TS/SCI, which requires highest levels of clearance. “It’s
serious stuff,” he had said, as per the MSN report.
