Roger Waters, the former Pink Floyd bassist and vocalist, has faced the wrath of local authorities in Poland’s Krakow after his comments on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Waters, who left Pink Floyd in 1985, had earlier sent a letter to Ukraine’s first lady, Olena Zelenska, where he told her to ask her husband, president Volodymyr Zelensky, to opt for “a different route”.

The concert organizers later released a statement saying that “Live Nation Polska and Tauron Arena Krakow have cancelled Roger Waters’ concert”. However, they have not yet elaborated on the reason why the performance was being cancelled.

PAP, Poland’s state-run news agency, had earlier stated that it was the rockstar’s management who had decided to not go ahead with the show. Waters himself took to Facebook to deny this statement. In his post, the 79-year-old said, “Lukasz Wantuch has threatened to hold a meeting asking the council to declare me ‘Persona non grata’ because of my public efforts to encourage all involved in the disastrous war in Ukraine, especially the governments of the USA and Russia, to work towards a negotiated peace”.

In his post, the musician has said that if his concerts stand cancelled, it would be “a sad loss” for him since he was looking forward to sharing his music and “message of love” with his Polish fans.

Waters, who was born in England’s Great Bookham, has been professionally active since 1964. His albums as a Pink Floyd member, The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall, Animals, and Final Cut, helped propel the group to superstardom. However, Waters had to quit the band in 1985 over creative differences.

Rogers continued releasing music as a solo artist. His albums during his period, Radio K.A.O.S., Amused to Death, Is This The Life We Really Want?, and others continued to garner positive critical acclaim. Rogers’ ongoing concert tour, which has been cancelled in Poland, is called This Is Not A Drill.
