Tom Henry, the mayor of Fort Wayne, Indiana was arrested for causing an accident while drunk driving on Saturday night. He was release on Sunday.
Shortly after his release, the Democrat released a statement apologising for his actions saying that he accepted “full responsibility” and that he would be held accountable for his actions, that he respects the legal process and that he would “accept the consequences” of any rulings made in a court of law.
Who is Tom Henry?
Thomas Christopher Henry is an American businessman and a politician. He currently serves as the 35th mayor of the city of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
Growing up, Henry attended the Fort Wayne Central Catholic High School, graduating in 1970. Shortly after, he served in the US Army Military Police Corps from 1971 to 1973. Following his service in the armed forces, Henry shifted focus to completing his bachelors degree. He graduated with a degree in psychology and an MBA from the University of Saint Francis.
Prior to becoming mayor of Indiana’s second largest city, Henry served on the City Council for twenty years between 1984 and 2004. As a businessman, he is the president and CEO of a company called the Gallant Group, which specialises in healthcare consulting services.
Henry first became the mayor of Fort Wayne in 2008 after he won the Democratic primary in 2007. During the main election, he defeated Republican Matt Kelty, winning 60% of the votes.
The 70-year-old has been the second longest serving mayor of Fort Wayne. While he had stated that in 2019 that his fourth term would be his final one, he decided to to run for another term. His fourth term will expire on January 1, 2024.
He has been married to his wife Cindy Knocks since 1975. The couple have two children.
