Police in Lynchburg, Virginia, are searching for a man in connection with a deadly shooting that took place Friday night.

The incident took place on Cornerstone Street, local media reports said. Officers were called to the street after receiving 911 calls about shots being fired.

Some callers told police that a man had been shot and the suspect had fled the scene following the incident.

First responders and bystanders at the scene attempted life-saving measures, but could not save the victim.

Lynchburg Police Department said their Forensic and Criminal Investigation Units responded to the scene to investigate the incident.

Police have described the suspect as a man with a reddish-brown beard, wearing a dark-colored hoodie with a white and yellow design on the front, a dark-colored baseball cap backward, dark-colored long shorts, and dark-colored tennis shoes with a white check.

The identity of the suspect is still unknown. It remains unclear what was the motive behind the shooting. It is also not known if the suspect and the victim knew each other.

Police said that an investigation is underway into the shooting.
