The Centre on Tuesday announced that the CBSE class 12 exams have been cancelled due to the uncertain COVID-19 situations. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by PM Modi. It was also decided that the class 12 results will be made as per well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner.

Now that the decision is taken, college application and admission might become a little tricky. While students are unsure as to how the processes will take place, Delhi University has planned on how they will carry out the admission process.

A DU official said that due to the delays and cancellations in the class 12 exams, there will be a “clash” in the schedules of two DU batches in 2021.

“Currently, we have three contingency plans for admissions this year and ultimately the decision will depend on what the (education) ministry decides on June 3,” Careers360 quoted Pinki Sharma, dean of admissions, as saying.

“As per NEP 2020 (National Education Policy), if the education minister asks NTA (National Testing Agency) to conduct the Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET), we are ready to give 100% weightage to the entrance exam scores.”

CUCET is an all-India entrance test for admission to undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes in a section of central and state universities.

However, if CUCET is not conducted, or the National Testing Agency does not organise it, DU will conduct the admission based on Class 12 scores alone. This is an option that will come into play according to the objective criteria marking.

Commenting on the cancellation, PM Modi said that a student-friendly decision was taken. He also said that the safety of students of utmost importance.

He further added students should not be forced to give the examinations.
