BTS, the biggest group in the Kpop industry, declared that they would enlist in South Korea’s military service requirement. The 29-year-old Jin, who turns 30 this December, is the eldest member and is set to initiate this process by the end of October. The group plans to reconvene in 2025 following their service commitment.

Jin also announced the release of his solo work at the Busan Yet To Come concert on Saturday. Let us look back at some of his best solo works so far:

1. Epiphany: Epiphany literally means realisation. The version of Jin’s epiphany relates to the realisation of his own self-worth. The song takes us on his journey through separation and realising that he needs to put himself first. In this song, he talks about how although he is nervous to trail on this path alone, he hopes for a better future.

2. Awake: An emotional song that takes us through Jin’s aspirations of dreaming big while fears persist due to resistance to failure. The song uses the metaphor of a butterfly’s wings that reflects his aspirations of soaring high in the sky. The song features on the BTS’ studio album Wings which explores a darker concept than what the band had dived into earlier.

3. Tonight: This was Jin’s first solo project which tackles the theme of death and grief. Jin in a blog post explained that he wrote the song down while thinking of his pet who passed away. This song does have the ability to make us shed a tear or two, and it is worth listening to.

4. Moon: This one is dedicated to the ARMY, where Jin is the moon and they are the Earth, and both of them constantly work to keep each other going. This tribute to the fans was very well received as Moon reached No. 1 on iTunes in over 100 countries. Jin became one of the only artists to ever achieve this feat.
