Fans celebrate ‘Barbillion’ as Greta Gerwig’s Barbie hits $1 billion at global box office
- Barbie has a 7.4 score on IMDb and 88% on Rotten Tomatoes
- The movie will stream on the parent company’s streaming service HBO’s Max
- Barbie will be available for streaming on Max roughly by this fall
Greta Gerwig’s Barbie has officially hit $1 billion at the global box office. Gerwig has made history as the first solo female director to cross $1 billion at the box office.
Barbie has joined the elite group of films to earn a billion dollars at the box office in the post-pandemic era, alongside Avatar: The Way of Water, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Top Gun: Maverick, The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Jurassic World Dominion.
Can you stream Barbie online?
Given that Warner Bros. produced Barbie, the film will be available on HBO’s Max, the parent company’s streaming service. However, given the film’s enormous success in theatres, the streaming release date appears to be far off and questionable at this time.
Max has added two more films to its streaming lineup: Evil Dead Rise and Shazam! Fury of the Gods – both are available 63 and 67 days after they were released in theatres, respectively. Both films’ box office revenues, however, pale in comparison to Barbie.

If Warner Bros. sticks to their two-month schedule, Barbie will be accessible for streaming on Max sometime this fall. Until then, you can see the film in theatres all over the world.
Barbie was only recently approved for release in the United Arab Emirates on August 31. Due to the film’s original delay, supporters were forced to travel to neighbouring nations to see it.
Barbie generated a lot of buzz even before the film was announced. Fans were ecstatic that their favourite Mattel doll would be getting her own film franchise.
Greta Gerwig was announced as the director of the picture, which stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. With a lot of meta-humor, the film tackles subjects like existentialism from a feminist perspective.
