Social media has seen many people follow some dangerous trends that could result in life-threatening injuries or in some cases, death. In search of likes and celebrity-like status, people take part in these trends. These dangerous trends have been a constant part of the internet and have seen a meteoric rise over the past couple of years.

Here are some of the trends that should not be followed:

The outlet challenge:

This challenge involves plugging in a charger in a charging socket and then putting a coin in the exposed portion of the prongs. This trend has led to many short circuits and fires. Many fire departments had warned people not to engage in this trend.

The salt and ice challenge:

This challenge can give third-degree burns without involving fire. In the challenge, the participants apply salt on their skin and pressed ice against it. This challenge was meant to see who can tolerate the pain longer.

Helium huffing:

In this challenge, the participants inhale helium to talk in a high-pitched and funny voice. This trend was followed on many sitcoms and late-night celebrity shows. Inhaling helium can push oxygen out of your body and could result in your lungs collapsing.

Neknomination:

It started as people just chugging drinks and nominating others to do the same. It resulted in hangovers, puking and caused alcohol poisoning in some cases. People starting drinking booze with dead rats or goldfish at the bottom of their glasses.

The boiling water challenge:

This challenge was followed by people who live in extremely cold conditions. People tossed a bowl filled with boiling water in the air to see it change to snow.

While some completed the challenge safely, some sustained severe burns.
