Late veteran actor Dilip Kumar received many prestigious awards during his lifetime, among them being the coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994. Known as the highest honour in Indian cinema, the legendary actor received the honour at the 42nd National Film Award.
In his career half a century, Kumar was awarded several honours, including Padma Bhushan (India’s third-highest civilian honour) and Padma Vibhushan (India’s second-highest civilian honour).
News agency ANI shared the video of Dilip Kumar receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award from Shankar Dayal Sharma, the ninth President of the country.

Popularly known as the ‘tragedy king of Bollywood’, Dilip Kumar died on Wednesday. He was 98. The actor had been admitted to Mumbai’s Hinduja hospital since last Tuesday.
Confirming his death, Kumar’s family friend Faisal Farooqui wrote from the actor’s Twitter handle: “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, few minutes ago.”
“We are from God and to Him we return,” he added.
Dilip Kumar — born Yusuf Khan, hailed from Peshawar, British India, now a part of Pakistan. Often called the ‘first Khan of Bollywood’, he made his Bollywood debut in 1994 with ‘Jwar Bhata’.

In a career that spanned over five decades, he gave several memorable performances and was part of many iconic films that included ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, ‘Devdas’, ‘Naya Daur’, and ‘Ram Aur Shyam’. His last film was ‘Qila’ that released in 1998, 54 years after his debut.

He is survived by his wife and veteran actor Saira Banu, whom he married in 1966.
