Dilip Kumar was an Indian film actor and philanthropist. He was
not only one of the earliest superstars of Hindi cinema, but also one of the legendary artists India has seen. He had a career spanning over 50 years.
His first film was Jwar Bhata in 1944.

Devdas: 

Although, often when we speak of ‘Devdas’ we think of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2002 film, starring actors Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit. 

However, it was Dilip Kumar who played the titular role of ‘Devdas’ in the 1955 classic with the same name. Actor Suchitra Sen played ‘Paro’ and Vyajayantimala was ‘Chandramukhi’.

Mughal-e-Azam:

Salim, an emperor’s son, falls in love with a beautiful
courtesan. Even though he is determined to be with her, his father decides to
break them apart. The film was directed by K Asif and produced by Shapoorji
Pallonji and Kumar played the role of ‘Salim’. The soundtrack of the movie is inspired by Indian classical and folk
music.

Gunga Jumna:

This was the only film produced by Dilip Kumar. The story is
set around an innocent man who is forced to become a dacoit. It was one of the
biggest hits of the 1960s and one of the most successful Indian films in terms
of box office collection.

The film received critical acclaim and was regarded
as one of the best films of all time.

Naya Daur:

Director Baldev Raj Chopra’s ‘Naya Daur’ is another iconic film with
a memorable performance by Dilip Kumar. It portrayed the concept of man versus
machine with utmost sincerity. Its songs continue to be popular, especially
‘Maang ke saath tumhara.’

‘Naya Daur’ is also one of the two black and white
films to be re-released in a color version. The other being ‘Mughal-e-Azam,’
which also starred Dilip Kumar.

Madhumati:

Madhumati is a 1958 paranormal romance film directed and
produced by Bimal Roy. The movie showcases Deven who takes shelter in a mansion
when a landslide blocks his route to the railway station. He finds the mansion
eerily familiar and soon learns about the story of his previous birth.

Shakti:

It was notable for being the first and only film to feature
veteran actors Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachan on screen. The film is regarded
as director Ramesh Sippy’s best work and is considered one of the greatest
films in the history of cinema.

Mashaal:

Dilip Kumar starring as Vinod Kumar played a respected,
law-abiding citizen who turns to crime for exacting revenge.  The Bollywood action film is produced and
directed by Yash Chopra.

Karma:

The film reunited Subhash Ghai and Dilip Kumar after the
success of their last film together Vidhaata which was released in 1982. The
movie portrays a terrorist who has a jailer’s family killed, determined to
avenge the killings, he recruits three death-row prisoners to assist him.
