Carmelo Hayes defeated Bron Breakker at Stand & Deliver on Saturday, April 1 to become NXT champion for the first time. He countered Breakker’s military press power slam and hit a face-breaker on the champion.

Both wrestlers have seemingly been on a collision course since NXT 2.0 launched in September 2021. They were immediately pushed to the top of the brand and tabbed as future top stars in WWE.

It didn’t take long for the either wrestler to win gold, as Hayes won the North American Championship in October 2021 and Breakker became NXT champion in January 2022.

WWE Career

Hayes signed a contract with WWE on February 12, 2021. He was assigned to the WWE Performance Center. Brigham made his debut on the June 1 episode of NXT under the name Carmelo Hayes. He accepted Kushida’s open challenge for the NXT Cruiserweight Championship but was defeated.

He had his second match on the June 22 episode of NCT, reminding of John Cena’s SmackDown debut in 2002 against Kurt Angle, confronting and facing Adam Cole in a losing effort.

He participated in the 2021 NXT Breakout Tournament, beating Josh Briggs, Duke Hudson, and Odyssey Jones to win the tournament. On September 14, Hayes and debutant Trick Williams maliciously attacked Hudson before his match, establishing themselves as a heel duo.
