Chelsea players and manager Graham Potter were booed off the Stamford Bridge pitch after their 2-0 loss against Aston Villa. The Blues have now fallen to the bottom half of the Premier League table. They are 11th – behind Brighton, Brentford and Fulham.

On Saturday, Potter and co looked desperate as the clock ticked to 90 minutes. They lined up with Reece James and Marc Cucurell and managed to create chances in the first half. Villa’s Ollie Watkins broke the deadlock in the 18th minute when a weak header back caught goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in no-man’s land.

Chelsea had a goal ruled out. Scottish star John McGinn curled the ball through a crowd into the bottom corner to give his side a 2-0 bump in the 56th minute.

However, even the return of fan-favourite N’Golo Kante could not help Chelsea. The Stamford Bridge camp are now mathematically out of the Premier League title race. They have won 10 games, drawn eight and lost 10 this season.

Fans were fuming at Graham Potter, under whose guidance the team has failed despite spending big money in transfers.

“Graham Potter has to go tonight,” a Twitter user said.

“Graham Potter can never be like Thomas Tuchel, pass it on,” another one added.

“Lampard got us top 4 with a transfer ban. Potter has us in 11th after we’ve spent millions. Not even close to being the same,” a third one tweeted.

Potter spoke to Sky Sports after the game. He said: “Both boxes we were second best … the first goal is disappointing from our perspective … but there’s a lot of good things in the game … attacking play, attacking entries, shots … if you look at the stats it’s a positive performance, but in terms of the scoreline it’s not because we’re down in the game and we’re all really disappointed. ”
