The BMW headquarters also known as BMW tower, is a highrise in Munich’s Am Riesenfeld area. It has served as the corporate HQ for the automobile company since 1973.
In 1999, authorities declared it a protected historic building. The BMW headquarters are often referred to as an example of modern-day architecture in Munich. The building saw immense renovations in 2004, with work being completed two years later.

The building’s four cylindrical towers are meant to represent the car’s engine, while the museum represents the head of the cylinder. Conceptualized by Austrian architect Karl Schwanzer, the towers don’t rest on the ground, but are suspended on a central tower that provides support.
Bayerische Motoren Werke, or BMW began as Bayerische Flugzeug-Werke, a company building aircraft engines in 1916. In the 1920s, the company began making motorcycles. Then, in 1928, BMW moved to automobiles and eventually established itself as a premium brand.

Part of the company’s popularity was due to a series of bikes that went over well in the United States. However, the history of this automobile company has been one of ups and downs, from designing the world’s first jet aeroplane engine, used by the Luftwaffe during World War II, to starting to lose out to Volkswagen’s more compact and cost-effective vehicles, after the war ended.
After German entrepreneur Herbert Quandt took over the company, BMW exited its slump, coming out with some excellent offerings like the 700 series.
