The more than two-month-long festive season that has just ended meant late nights, erratic mealtimes and lots of activity. This can leave you dull, tired, or with digestive problems. Irregular eating during festivals can give you an upset stomach.

Rujuta Diwekar, celebrity nutritionist, recommends a few easy remedies for people who are feeling bloated and dull after the festive season. Anyone can follow these.

“Hope you had a wonderful Diwali, full of family gatherings, eating and sharing mithai and  Diwali delicacies. Diwekar suggests three easy but effective remedies to help you detox and feel energized after the festival stress. Here are the suggestions by Rujuta Diwekar:

Sugarcane: India’s traditional detox and go-to therapy for jaundice, sugarcane has properties to make you feel as good as new. You can either chew it or drink its juice. Sugarcane is served as the main prasad for Tulsi Puja, which marks the end of Diwali. Sugarcane allows you to detox after all the excesses of the festivities. It is rich in glycolic acid, the ingredient used in expensive peels and cosmetics, to bring back the glow on your face and even help restore collagen tissue (bye-bye acne).

Tender coconut water: A refreshing and quick remedy to fix the electrolyte balance and reduce bloating. For a quick recovery from late-night card parties, one must reach out for coconut water in the morning. Don’t forget to eat the tender coconut: the medium-chain fatty acids in the coconut can boost your stamina and will help you feel like not postponing your workout to the next morning.

Gulkand: A therapeutic mixture of rose petals, sugar and herbs, gulkand can reduce and even prevent acidity. Excessive eating and sleep deprivation can ruin gut flora and the intestinal mucus. You may drink gulkand with milk or simply chew it by itself and it will put your intestines on the fast track to recovery.

Diwekar also suggested one tablespoon of jaggery and ghee post lunch and dinner for cleansing intestines and sinuses.
