Delhi HC allows 50 people to offer namaz at Nizamuddin Markaz during Ramzan

The Delhi High Court on Thursday allowed 50 people to offer Namaz five times a day at the Nizamuddin Markaz during Ramzan. The court directed Nizamuddin only the first floor of the moque – Masjid Bangley Wali – can be used for offering prayers. 

According to PTI, Justice Prathiba M Singh noted that while the Delhi Disaster Management Authority has restricted all religious gatherings in light of the alarming surge in COVID-19 cases in the city, it has not ordered the closure of religious places.

The Delhi Wafq Board had asked for an increase in the maximum number of people allowed to attend as well as allowing the useage of other floors, both of which were denied by the court. It, however, allowed the Board to move an application with the Nizamuddin police station SHO for the same. 

The court said the SHO may decide any such application moved by the Board in accordance with the law.

The court’s order will be subject to any DDMA notification in view of the increasing number of virus cases in the city. On Wednesday, Delhi recorded its highest-ever single-day spike of 17,282 COVID-19 cases.
