Delhi reports 19,486 COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours, highest single-day spike

  • Delhi recorded 41 deaths on Thursday, taking the total death toll to 11,793
  • A total of 98,957 tests were conducted the previous day

Delhi recorded 19,486 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, which is the highest single-day surge in the national capital since the pandemic began. The national capital records 141 deaths on Thursday, taking the total death toll to 11,793.

The data shared by the health department stated that a total of 98,957 tests were conducted the previous day. Though over 12,000 people recovered on Thursday, the positivity rate mounted to 19.69%. 

Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases, a weekend curfew has been imposed in Delhi, the restrictions of which would apply from Friday 10 pm till Monday 6 am.

In a video message on Thursday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the curfew and assured that there are enough hospital beds available in the national capital.

“There is no shortage of beds in hospitals in Delhi. According to the latest data, more than 5,000 beds are available,” he said.
